Hillary Clinton Hits Opponent Hard on Guns

Bernie Sanders Walks A Fine Line On Gun Control
NPR
JUNE 24, 2015

He added, "I can understand if some Democrats or Republicans represent an urban area where people don't hunt, don't do target practice, they're not into guns. But in my state, people go hunting and do target practice. Talking about cultural divides in this country, you know, it is important for people in urban America to understand that families go out together and kids go out together and they hunt and enjoy the outdoors and that is a lifestyle that should not be condemned."

What a crazy gun nut! Guns aren't a part of anyone's culture.

Clinton touts her experience with guns
CNN
April 12th, 2008

Hillary Clinton appealed to Second Amendment supporters on Saturday by hinting that she has some experience of her own pulling triggers.

“I disagree with Sen. Obama’s assertion that people in our country cling to guns and have certain attitudes about trade and immigration simply out of frustration,” she began, referring to the Obama comments on small-town Americans that set off a political tumult on Friday.

She then introduced a fond memory from her youth.

“You know, my dad took me out behind the cottage that my grandfather built on a little lake called Lake Winola outside of Scranton and taught me how to shoot when I was a little girl,” she said.

“You know, some people now continue to teach their children and their grandchildren. It’s part of culture. It’s part of a way of life. People enjoy hunting and shooting because it’s an important part of who they are. Not because they are bitter.”

Wait, what? Guns are a part of who people are? I guess that's not different from what Bernie said.

In Post-Debate Push, Hillary Clinton Highlights Gun Divide With Bernie Sanders
ABC News

“Some people say we shouldn’t shout about it,” she noted, drawing attention to Sanders' debate remarks that “all the shouting in the world” would not keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people.

“Well, I think we have to keep talking about it,” she continued. “But more importantly, we have to act.”

Later on Friday, in an interview with CNN, Clinton was asked if she was intentionally positioning herself to advance on Sanders.

“I don’t think I’ve moved at all,” she said. “I have been the same person. I have the same values. I have the same principles … I'm sure we had some memo somewhere pointing out things that we tried to go after. But that's politics. I get it.”

This is how people get whiplash. OK, Clinton definitely against the guns, has always been consistent, not changing her story for political purposes. Got it.

Hillary Clinton Penchant for Expediency Leading to Repeat of 2008 Downfall
Observer

In 2008, Hillary Clinton also used gun control as a political tool, but this time in the other direction, portraying herself as more gun friendly than her main opponent, Barack Obama. In a 2008 Democratic Primary debate, Ms. Clinton was asked about her stance on gun control and she responded, “I respect the Second Amendment. I respect the rights of lawful gun owners to own guns, to use their guns, but I also believe that most lawful gun owners whom I have spoken with for many years across our country also want to be sure that we keep those guns out of the wrong hands. And as president, I will work to try to bridge this divide, which I think has been polarizing and, frankly, doesn’t reflect the common sense of the American people. We will strike the right balance to protect the constitutional right but to give people the feeling & the reality that they will be protected from guns in the wrong hands.”

That Time Hillary Clinton’s Campaign Attacked Obama In 2008 For Flip-Flopping On Guns
Buzzfeed
Oct. 12, 2015

“What does Barack Obama really believe?” a mail ad from Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign asked of her Democratic primary opponent’s position on guns.

The mailer attacked Obama for first—according to the ad—telling a group in Chicago he supported a ban on handguns. The ad references a candidate questionnaire from 1996, when Obama was running for State Senate, in which he was listed as supporting a ban on ‘the manufacture, sale, and possession of handguns.’ It then notes he told an Idaho crowd that he supported the Second Amendment and finally hits him for a comment he made about about people in “small towns in Pennsylvania” who “cling to guns or religion.”

The campaign sent out the mailer in May, a month after Clinton called Obama’s “cling to guns” remark “elitist,” saying that guns were “part of culture,” and telling the story of how her father taught her to shoot in her childhood. Obama shot back, accusing her of “talking like she’s Annie Oakley.”

Ok, so to recap, Mrs. Clinton is to the left of Sanders on guns ... and to the right of Obama. I guess politics is like quantum physics, you can end up on every side of every issue.

mental illness to go after him. How sad. But then remember Rahm Emmanuel also used mental illness to go after the Left. He was forced to apologize for the use of the word 'retarded' however he never apologized to the Left.

And once again, as it often does, the Left turned out to be RIGHT about Gen. Petraeus. Someone should ask him now what he thinks of what Moveon correctly called him back then that set poor Rahm off to the point of lashing out at those who turned out to be right.

Cheney for the tragic invasion of Iraq. However, Petraeus did violate security rules and there was a lot more that was just coming out, when the whole thing was put to rest. I blame him for his own irresponsible behavior and all those who VOTED for the lies and deceptions among so many others who facilitated the war criminals in their pursuit of that War for Profit.

Chelsea Manning is in jail for 35 years for supposedly violating security. Petraeus should have been held to a far higher standard than someone like Manning.

According to Hillary supporters on DU Bernie is Israel's #1 shill, a racist, gun nut, scheming little sneak, pandering phony braggart withsome kind of emotional instability, tool for the NRA, Republican man with his head between women's legs, who protects the minutemen militia, pedophiles, racist cops, has rape fantasies and thinks that orgasms prevent cancer.

Whenever someone complains about how Hillary is vilified here show them that list.

That is how they treat the progressive Senator from Vermont who fought for our rights for decades and was a DU darling before he challenged Hillary.

6. For most people, myself included, gun control is desirable but it is not the primary issue.
Tue Oct 27, 2015, 12:18 AM
Oct 2015

The primary issue is wealth inequality, followed closely by global warming. Or some would have them the other way around, which is fine. But we've got to get health care, strengthen social security, start massive infrastructure projects moving us aggressively toward renewable energy sources, fix the corporate tax code so these multi nationals pay their fair share of US income tax, boost the tax on high wage earners, tax capital gains as regular income, impose a transaction tax on Wall Street, reinstate Glass-Steagall, provide free tuition at state colleges and universities, de-privatize prisons and tone down military spending.

Those are the things I would put ahead of gun control and I'll tell you why: They would make more Americans happier and less stressed. Certain psychological experiments with rats have suggested that rats that are happier and less stressed are less violent to one another, and I see no reason not to extend this supposition to the American people. Less stress plus more economic security equals less gun violence.

But to be fair, this IS the ONLY issue on which Clinton beats Sanders. I will concede that relatively minor point.

She thinks Sanders' gun position is a weak point given the mass shootings, so she takes the opposite view.
His positions that are very popular, she experiences a just-in-time conversion & pretends she always believed the same.

She has no integrity.

on guns will 'evolve' probably to Bernie's position. Because you can't win the GE with just part of the base of the Dem party, which now makes up only 32% of the electorate.

You need crossover votes to win. Bernie already has that, he is attracting Republicans, Libertarians and of course Independents who now are the largest registered voting bloc in the country.

She simply cannot go after Sanders on much of anything, his record is that good. Someone told her that THIS is one issue where she might have an advantage.

However,, they are ignoring the fact that many Democrats are gun owners and are just as concerned about their rights to own guns as are the rest of the population.

She's wrong a lot, so this is no surprise.
