Bernie Sanders shrugs off lagging poll numbers

Bernie Sanders shrugs off lagging poll numbers
Jacqueline Policastro
Valley News Live

A new Monmouth University Poll of likely Iowa Democratic caucusgoers shows Hillary Clinton with a 41-point lead over Bernie Sanders. It’s the first poll conducted after Clinton’s appearance before the Benghazi Committee.

With a shrug of the shoulders, Sanders blew off the numbers saying, “poll numbers go up and they go down.”

Sanders also added, “Well that’s, hah, very different from the other polls that I have seen.”

“I think secretary Clinton will have almost all of the establishment support but I am pretty proud that we have 750- thousand Americans who have contributed to our campaign alone,” Sanders said.

Sanders said he plans to stay in the race for President no matter what the polls show. The Vermont Senator told us he will start airing political ads on television stations across the country in the next few weeks, something he hasn’t done yet.

“We are going to win this race,” Sanders said.

At this early stage, no candidate* is going to say "Well folks, it ain't looking good. We're probably not going to make it, so I might as well quit now before it gets worse."

*Unless you're Walker or Perry or Webb or Chafee.

My few bucks in donations are more about moral support and taking a side. I think Sanders will spend it all on getting the message out, he's not a hoarder. I'm thinking he'll win but I too can accept it if he didn't.

That's the hallmark of a great campaign that goes on to win. Secretary Clinton's rebound, thanks in part to clownish Republicans, doesn't take a thing away from Senator Sanders campaign for progressive values. He's committed to the premise of that being what the voters want, and I agree with him.

To play it any other way would just be one false note after another. This campaign rings true, and that's one reason why the political landscape has had to adapt to its game changing effect.

The campaign to nominate and then elect Secretary Clinton is a gargantuan effort with tremendous momentum. It's not surprising that even when it stumbles, or has to deal with obstacles, or modify its course, that it still continues forward with great power.

But getting nominated is about more than just powering through the electoral landscape. There are going to be moments of stillness where the sum of ones campaign is held up for inspection. The sum total of these moments are what will show Sanders to be the candidate that the majority of primary voters are looking for.

I guess some/most of us Sanders supporters are having a moment of reflection as the campaign moves forward. As I was writing my last post I was reminded me of a scene from the highly quotable TV show, Babylon 5.

Somber, but ultimately reassuring, especially if you are a fan.

I think it was "them" that killed him.

"Who decides that the work day is from 9 to 5 instead of 11 to 4? Who decides that the hemlines will be below the knee this year, and short again next year? Who draws up the borders, controls the currency, handles all the decisions that happen transparently around us?" Sheridan admits he doesn't know. "Ah," says the old man. "I'm with them. Same group, different department. Think of me as a sort of middleman. And the name is Justin."

'It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.'

It's about a guy going to the guillotine masquerading as another guy who was supposed to go essentially so the other guy could go free, as a means of reparation for his life.

The character speaking it is in essence a chameleon.
