Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Sunday defended his 1990s adversary former President Clinton, arguing that Clinton’s Democratic convention speech was actually a condemnation of President Obama’s record.

Gingrich attributed 80 percent of the post-convention bounce Obama received to Clinton, but he said the underlying theme of Clinton’s speech was “eerily anti-Obama.”

“Here’s Clinton saying, I reformed welfare because I worked with Republicans — you didn’t Mr. Obama,” Gingrich said on CNN’s “State of the Union. “He didn’t say it that way, but think about it.

"I had the longest period of economic growth in history. You didn’t Mr. Obama,” he said. “I got to four balanced budgets by working with Republicans. You didn’t Mr. Obama.”

using the Clintons. Oh if only someone on the left would do a commercial on how the GOP have nobody.

"Who has the GOP put in ads to contrast with Obama? Anyone in the George W. Bush team in ads? NOPE! The current Republican House and Republican Senate leaders? NOPE! Mitt and Paul Ryan? NOPE!......why it is the Clintons who vehemently support Obama"

He's using the one strategy available to him, and it might fool a few people. Newt and the RNC are trying to use Bill Clinton's popularity against Obama by engaging in reverse psychology and praising the former Dem President in order to make Obama look bad by comparison.

But while it's a clever strategy at first look, one can shoot down Newt's theory by pointing out to him that Bill Clinton was there to ENDORSE and NOMINATE OBAMA. His whole speech was in support of him and he's going to be campaigning for him. So journalists should be coming back at Newt with this fact.

Newt was never the sharpest tool in the shed. Clinton owned him years ago and exposed his spoiled little bratty idiocy during the 90's.
