I think Georgia is more in play than we know...

A ton of evangelicals from back in Georgia, where I'll be moving back to in about 3 weeks, likely are having major problems voting for Romney. Many of the ones I have spoken to, or can even have a civilized conversation with, are conflicted with Romney being a Mormon. Thereare also many who I would call Republicans but they themselves would call themselves Independents/Libertarian that are going to vote Libertarian for sure because they say they dont even recognize the Republican party. I went to high school with all of these people and they range from ages 30-36. If theres enough people not voting for Romney because of his religion or people voting 3rd party it could be closer than we think.

casting a vote for a Mormon.

How many will stay home rather than choose between two evils, as they see it?

With the exception of my car, of course.

The metro areas of Georgia are vastly different than the rural areas.

It is a 100% red county. Last election, I had a Obama/Biden sticker on my car and the cops would follow me just to intimidate me. So this year, I will play it safe and not use my Obama/Biden sticker.

Obama lost it to McCain by 5 points in 2008, even when he was at the height of his popularity.

Nate Silver seems to think the state is becoming more Republican, as well.

Bill Clinton was able to win it in 1992, but not in 1996.

Carter won it in 1976 & 1980.

But if Obama can just pull a few extra points than he did in 2008, and if resistance there to Romney is just a bit greater than it was to McCain, who knows?

I know evangelicals too, and that is going to be a bigger problem than anybody thinks. I think the Romney camp doesn't want it mentioned in the media because that might reinforce the idea with those voters.

An energetic GOTV effort might just pay off, you never know. Especially in the more urban areas, or college towns.

(Edit to add: Romney dissing Ron Paul at their convention wasn't a smart move either. Lots of Paulites said they are sitting it out or voting Libertarian.)

Seeing more Rmoney/Lyin stickers on cars nowadays. Haven't seen/head anything positive about Obama while sitting in shops or walking around. Maybe he pulls a miracle, but the DNC is no where to be seen down here in Savannah.

I sure wish my impressions are wrong, though. It would be sooooooo satisfying to see Obama win this state and have all the crackers head's explode!

He's the last Democrat to win the state.

Although perhaps the DNC feels he is more valuable in key states like Florida, where he is appearing on Wednesday.

This state still has Jack Kingston & those cronies thanks to those pockets of Republicans still plaguing the South.
Still mad about the Civil War & Civil Rights those old Dixiecrats are.
Hopefully Atlanta & Savannah can help push Georgia over the edge & we can start uprooting these fools.
