1. My sense has always been that at some point, Obama would pull away.

The 5 years spent demonizing Obama have failed.

The GOP created the mess. Obama has made a great deal of progress repairing it, but there is still more to do. And Romney brings absolutely nothing to the discussion.

Obama should win in a landslide. Should.

I think he'll get over 300 EC votes. And he should, should, get closer to 350. If we lived in a reality based world.

2. Yeah, it will almost certainly show the Obama bump, though perhaps not as dramatic as we hope

I was a little disappointed by PPP's Ohio and North Carolina polls, even though they were as positive as could be reasonably expected. Obama outperforming his 2008 victory margins by a lot is not a likely result at all, even if he wins North Carolina again.

3. Remember, Obama only won Ohio by 4.6 points in '08.

It was never going to be a lopsided victory for him there.

5. In a year like this, I'd say those are good numbers

In a year like 2012 when Obama is being blamed for the economy, I'd say he's doing very well to be ahead in Ohio and holding steady with Romney in a red state like North Carolina.

Until 2008, no Democrat since Jimmy Carter had won North Carolina. I'd say it's impressive for a Democrat, particularly a black Democrat who faces prejudice, to be competitive in North Carolina for the 2nd election in a row.

We can't expect Obama to crush Romney in NC. Not even Bill Clinton won that state.

4. The Democratic convention was thoroughly first class from start to finish; I'm not surprised it

made a huge difference. So many speeches with lots of substance were bound to have made a positive effect.

7. CNN has good numbers for Obama in the past

CNN had Obama in the lead all year up until the RNC when Romney pulled into a Tie in the last poll.

If Obama goes back up in CNN, that will be another good sign.

For some reason the IBD/CSM/TIPP poll out today only shows Obama with a 2-point lead.
