Poll: Clinton speech was the favorite

I don't think Obama will mind since it seems to have helped him.

9/10/12 4:02 PM EDT

Former President Bill Clinton's speech was the highlight of the Democratic Party convention — overshadowing President Obama's own acceptance speech, according to a new poll.

A new Pew survey finds that 29 percent of those who watched some of the coverage named Clinton's speech as the highlight. Obama's speech drew 16 percent of the plaudits, and first lady Michelle Obama's speech was the highlight for 15 percent of respondents.

Obama's speech was also rated lower than his 2008 acceptance speech. According to Pew, 42 percent of watchers rated Obama's speech as excellent in 2008. This year, only 29 percent rated it the same.

As a challenger he laid out his vision which allowed him to speak with passion and conviction that he still has, but now we all know that it isn't that easy, especially with all the Congressional obstructionism. All the speakers were great and the convention was beautifully produced. Clinton's speech was wonderful. No surprise that he was rated highest.

5. The speech was exactly what the Democratic Party needed.

It couldn't have been given by President Obama himself. He needed for someone to verify the job he has been doing. People have been watching but, haven't understood. Plus, to hear Bill say that the enconomy will recover under the Dems gave people a sense of calm. I think it made some wake up and realize that any change now would actually hurt the economy. All the Democratic speakers were great at the convention and people watched and realized. We actually have good leaders who care about the middle class and the poor. He actually had a big part in the re-election of our President. Forward with Obama!

Frankly, I thought Clinton's speech was better than Obama's, but since Obama got the help he needed, I seriously doubt he is going to mind.

But maybe not his best. After the well done Dem convention and the boring Repuke one, Obama's speech was good enough by far IMO. I am not a big Clinton fan, but he has a way with words. It was smart having him.
