Romney is a lubricated weather vane

(25,415 posts)He says he supports him but when it comes time to actually vote for Mittens? Hmmm.....
He was very critical of Romney over this recent embassy thing and one of Huntsman's daughters tweeted that Romney was very wrong.
Liddy Huntsman recently tweeted:
"Secretary Clinton is the ultimate Stateswoman. #classact"
"There is a time & place for politics. It's disgraceful that the Romney team would use this Libyan attack for their own political gain."

(28,151 posts)I think he'd give us more of a contest than ol' Mittens can.

(34,857 posts)But kind of in reverse. A third-party candidate would've run from the far-right and taken a lot of Republican support from Huntsman. It's hard to imagine the base, who's had issues with Romney, getting behind Huntsman and I doubt Huntsman would use the type of rhetoric Romney has used to inflame the base.
My guess is if Huntsman had run, Obama wins solely because the Republicans would be extremely divided. Even so, whereas I anticipate he'll get a majority of support against Romney, I don't see him getting a majority of support with Huntsman.
So, maybe...
Obama: 45%
Huntsman: 42%
Third Party Candidate: 13%

(76 posts)Huntsman has been by far, the most successful GOP governor of the last three decades. His approval ratings while serving as Governor was ridiculously high, and Utah was near the top of all sorts of benchmarks during his two terms. Utah was even voted as the best managed state in the country during his tenure.
He would've appealed to the moderates in both parties, and the independents. In a non-tea party era, I think Huntsman would've clinched the GOP nomination. The fact that he was a personal friend of President Obama meant he never stood a chance with them.
I still remembered the way he smashed Romney during the debates on Afghanistan (for the record, Huntsman's position is almost identical to President Obama).
But his career in the Republican Party is effectively over now after he compared them to China's Communist Party.
