Right now I'm reading a book from mega-selling fantasy author George R. R. Martin. The following is a passage where he is writing from the point of view of a woman -- always a tough thing for men to do. The girl is on her way to a key confrontation, and the narrator describes it thusly:

"When she went to the stables, she wore faded sandsilk pants and woven grass sandals. Her small breasts moved freely beneath a painted Dothraki vest ..."

That's written from the woman's point of view. Yes, when a male writes a female, he assumes that she spends every moment thinking about the size of her breasts and what they are doing. "Janet walked her boobs across the city square. 'I can see them staring at my boobs,' she thought, boobily." He assumes that women are thinking of themselves the same way we think of them.

He does seem to write from his truth, though.

He is the editor of "Cracked", which is the best "info-blurb" and short essay
source on the internet, as far as I'm concerned.

hit my funny bone - I have read all of GOT but I am a speed reader so I miss this kind of detail, it is something to be aware of.

Would a woman write from a man's point of view:

When he went to the stables, he wore a Dothraki vest and woven grass sandals. His small penis moved freely beneath his faded sandsilk pants ...

I don't think so.

True story:

A nephew of my husband had to have a testicle removed. He was
very upset and thought that women would find him "deformed".

My sister in law just rolled her eyes and told him that no woman would notice,
and if they did, it would definitely NOT put her off!

3. Boy, has he got that one right. Women don't think of themselves that way at all.

I found the article interesting and insightful. That passage reminded me forcefully of an idiotic book I read wherein a woman is discussing a man she can see swimming in the nude and admiring the large size of his scrotum. Seriously.

I love how the author included FreeRepublic as well. I was just laughing at crazy posts on there this morning.

The fact that the author uses them and Reddit as examples is no surprise at all
