"Summer of Rage" & demonstrations.

Yesterday at the Hart Senate Office Building nearly 600 mainly women were arrested by CapitolPD. It was a sit down protest from a Womens March about the kid detention camps. It didn't look like the PD were prepared for that sit down. It's almost fallen.out of the news b/c of the sheer noise grabbing our attention. The author of this piece has given me some things to consider. It's not a long read, but insightful & worth the time.

..."Democrats have won the popular vote in four of five of the elections held since 2000, yet have only occupied the White House for two terms. Meanwhile, Republicans, as Jonathan Chait wrote Wednesday, are “increasingly comfortable with, and reliant on, countermajoritarian power.” Of course, as Chait outlines in his column, the Electoral College was intentionally designed to empower a minority: those in less populous areas of the country who wanted to protect the institution of slavery. The documents that encoded the participatory democracy of which Americans tend to be so proud expressly barred the electoral, civic, and economic participation of the nonwhite and the non-male."

on his show. He wanted to leave with one final hopeful thought...6 out of 7 of the past presidential elections were won by a popular vote by Dems! The only one not won was 2004. Both Stephen and Michael want to abolish the Electoral College.
