Interesting bug on embedded tweets.

Last edited Mon Jun 8, 2020, 04:14 AM - Edit history (2)

My default browser is Vivaldi. As of about 10 days ago, suddenly, the tweets that are embedded don't load on the desktop version. They do load on the mobile version of Vivaldi. No issues with Chrome or Edge browsers on the desktop. For some reason, the same issue came up in Mozilla Firefox. I even did a user-agent spoof of Chrome 83 and cleared the cookie file. The code is the same, but different results. Any ideas?

Update: This error upon Inspection: Failed to load resource: net::ERR_BLOCKED_BY_CLIENT Is that Twitter or DU?

not getting twitter is your lucky day nt msongs Jun 2020 #1
Possibly due to an extension on your browser, such as adware. Good luck. nt 42bambi Jun 2020 #2

What Vivaldi and Firefox have done is now standard privacy detection and built-in ad blocking. I made an exception for democraticunderground.com so I can see the tweets. Even though it's warned that some sites may break because of this, I'm glad it's there.

PS, Vivaldi is developed in Norway 🇳🇴, so it's subject to EU 🇪🇺 privacy policy, more stringent than the US, even California.

Since I'm writing this from Chrome, I couldn't replicate what you are seeing. Vivaldi and Firefox have built-in tracking that will block Twitter Widgets (the one's that open automatically) unless the website democraticunderground.com is whitelisted as an exception or the tracking protection is turned off.

I don't run tracking protection in Chrome and haven't found yet an extension that acts like the aforementioned services. I also couldn't replicate this on the desktop mode of Chrome on Android. This is an extension causing this that is working too well. It should have an exception offering somewhere in its Extension options. HTH
