You can't get "NRA Certification" without being a MEMBER of the NRA.

I pulled out a student packet for NRA Basic Pistol. Being an NRA member is not a requirement nor is membership given through the course. There are brochures included on becoming a member.

I checked into some of my competition. There are some instructors who do include membership "Free" as a benefit of taking the course. The NRA has a program where instructors can offer reduced rate memberships and get a kickback for each student who signs up. It means the instructor pays about $15 to give away this "free" offer. The instructors who do this seem to charge $15-$25 more than those who do not give away membership.

Having an NRA certificate doesn't mean your a member, in CT. you have to go through a Basic Pistol Course to obtain the handgun permit.

Puhlease, I used to be NRA certified to teach the Basic Pistol and Law enforcement approved courses. Believe me..... NRA doesn't issue you their blessings (in the form of certification) without membership.

it's a certificate saying that you completed the course, not a membership certificate.

As a matter of fact I only took the class so my wife wouldn't have to take it alone, I could have turned in my DD214 and met the training requirement.

I wouldn't be so quick to imply that another DUer is a liar unless you are conversant with the gun laws of all fifty states

..... not a 'CHP'. And it's very clear when you look at the requirements that ANY military experience is accepted.

A NRA "Firearms Safety Course" does not require NRA membership ..... but Colorado specifies "handgun training". And you need to be an NRA member to get that...... like Mrs. Lanza was.

and received a course completion certificate that has an NRA logo on the certificate. It is extremely common. An actual NRA certified instructor would know that. You didn't know that. ergo ....
