New group! Welcome!

Today's adventure in memory loss:

My grandmother has been watching Bones on Netflix, all nine seasons. She stated with E1S1 in April. Last week, she finished up season 9, and started a couple other series. Today, I arrive and she's back to Bones. I ask if she decided to start over. "Oh, no, I've just never seen the first season."

Ummm. Okay. That gives me a time frame for her persistence of memory -- around 6 weeks. It explains a lot, knowing that.

Memory's a funny thing. I suppose the upside is that I've found her comfort TV, like finding the DVD that your Kidlet will watch over and over and over.

Not only do most of us have elderly in our lives who may need help, all of us are aging and may learn a lot in advance of our own being among that population.

I'm in my fifties right now and receiving some home care for IV antibiotics, and I assisted my parents over several years until they both passed last years.

Thanks so much.

I look forward to the exchanges in this group. I am not currently a caregiver, but have had that experience. In my case, it was awful--not the caregiving itself so much, but the "caregivee"--my MIL, who was a narcissistic, horrible woman with an equally horrible family. It ended badly. But it did give me insight into what caregivers must endure--even those who love the people they're caring for.

I'm glad your grandmother has found something entertaining to occupy her mind!

Reading the stories here, and the humor with which they are presented, helps me in dealing with my parents
currently deteriorating situation.

I think I was headed for a nervous breakdown if I didn't find a circle of fellow caregivers like this.

I'm about as nurturing as a handgun, but my parents are getting old and I am doing the best I can.

I need this group. My parents are becoming a handful, and my sister lives 1500 miles away.

I think it will be great for support for us and also insight from those that have been caregivers.

If you can find a caregiver support group in your area, I encourage you to go.
