Zooming in on some of the people reminded me about some of my used to be friends who fit that bracket of people and why I have generally felt better when I was poor than when I had a good income with in was a young adult. I was an asshole of a hippie. Still the same mindset, but thought that all the poor had to do was get a decent job and get off welfare. God I was so fucking stupid.

creative professional married to a software engineer (and musician) during the first Clinton admin (since divorced). we started out as alt-weekly publishers -- so the profile is "entrepreneur." folks like us were courted like nobody's business during the first admin, and we ate it up. since i grew up super poor, i wouldn't say that i ever thought other people could actually bootstrap it out of poverty, but i did have a weird form of Clintonian magical thinking -- that we lived in a new entrepreneurial world where "anything was possible."

i totally see thru that now. i could write a book on how much BS that is.

I no longer view our presidential elections as anything other than orchestrated theater to give the illusion that the populace still has a say in how they're governed.
