Gun violence is most common in poor urban areas and frequently associated with gang violence, often involving male juveniles or young adult males.[13][14] Although mass shootings have been covered extensively in the media, mass shootings account for a small fraction of gun-related deaths[9] and the frequency of these events had steadily declined between 1994 and 2007.
Between 2007 and 2013, however, the rate of active shooter incidents per year in the US has increased.

So if we increase the amount of poor urban area's, does that increase overall gun violence? I'm thinking yes. (cough) Ferguson.
Speeches are nice but when are we actually going to do something about it. The poorer we get the more desperate we get and the likelihood of violence increases.

There are people in DU that can't seem to follow a simple logic flow and heaven there is more than 1 logic flow. Not to long ago we all seemed to think it was Bernie's responsibility and derided him for it, yet all I've heard from Obama are speeches with his 8 years in Office.
All of a sudden I'm a POS.

Now, take this a step further. You don't have many middle class kids joining gangs. When kids are involved in school, have friends, have things to do, when they aren't bored, they're less likely to get into trouble with drugs and alcohol. When people's lives are better, there's less of a market for drugs and the violent dealers and gangs have to go out of business.
Drug use is prevalent in urban ghettos, but it's common in boring suburbs and small towns with nothing for young people to do.
Take the money that's being spent on prisons and on equipping law enforcement with military gear and spend it on schools, communities, and mental health services.
