I often tell people that it is the only place I've ever known, let alone lived in, that looks exactly like its postcards.

And I live in Santa Fe, which is considered too expensive for anyone to afford.

A while back I went to Zillow and checked out the current value of the home we used to live in. It's now more than six times what it was when we bought and sold it back around 1990. We actually only lived in that house for about 18 months, then a job transfer took us to Kansas.

I can afford to live in a modest little place in Santa Fe. I'm not sure the equivalent exists in Boulder.

is more like San Francisco than anything. Home values absolutely skyrocketed during the 90's and beyond. And I don't think they've ever come back down. Short of winning a lottery, there is probably no way I could afford to live there again. And there was a lot I did love about it.

Oh, well, it's not as though Santa Fe is the armpit of the country.
