Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumI Posted This A Couple Of Times Before And I Think The Time Is Right Now - Lift The Cap......
It seems we have a relatively easy fix to Social Security and make it solvent for decades to come and that is "Lifting The Cap". I keep posting this thread because I believe a "LIft the Cap" campaign can be mounted that can be quite effective to get the American People behind this idea. I think that the Bernie Sanders Group on DU can be the catalyst for getting this off the ground. With Bernie vying for the Democratic Nomination - I believe that this would be very timely and it could further bolster Bernie's visibility and get him noticed by millions more of Americans.
Essentially the idea is to take (we all like to take selfies) and show pictures of people from all walks of life - lifting their caps off their heads and using social media to post these pictures like on Twitter and Facebook and the like - in support of lifting the current cap on Social Security Here's an example:
Think about how effective simple images like this can be - with some voice over about the current cap; how people making more money don't contribute; about fairness; and what lifting the cap would mean to the long term viability of Social Security.
A tv commercial - or a 'you tube' clip that can go viral - with pics of all sorts of people 'lifting' their caps'- would be a very poignant way of the American People voicing their support for 'lifting the cap' to solidify "Social Security".
Bernie keeps mentioning this almost everytime I hear him speak and I think it's time we help him out with a very simple and lllustrative campaign. It very vividly makes a statement.
I challenge fellow DU'ers here in the Bernie Sanders Group to post pics in this thread - of people lifting or raising their caps.
Come on folks - this is almost a no-brainer.
Here are a couple of other examples:

Do you get the idea? How about a #Liftthecap on Twitter. I'm not very familiar with Twitter - can somebody help out and get that started.

(17,997 posts)Unless they do, you shouldn't try to use them for it. Get people to take selfies, lifting the cap.
It's a cute idea.

(25,241 posts)what can be done. No - I don't know if the people in the pics endorse this - but I wanted to make a point of how easy it is to mount such a campaign - if people get behind it and start posting pics of themselves, friends, families and colleagues 'lifting their caps'.
I'm thinking that Tiger can afford to pay a little more into SS if the cap was raised.
I guess you can say that I 'lifted' these pics.
I always make the mistake of posting these ideas that I get in the wee hours of the morning and by the time the next day rolls around and people get back on DU - these posts wind up a page or two back and most DUers miss them.
I would appreciate it if you view my original post to Recommend it so it stays around longer for more to see it. Thanx!!!!
I like it. I'll try to help.

(25,241 posts)I'm not advocating people dump a bucket of ice water on their head - but think about how effective that campaign was.
I'm not advocating people give money. Save all your money to donate to Bernie's campaign and get him elected.
All I'm advocating is that people take pics of self or others 'lifting their cap off their head' and either post them on the social media sites or flood Congress with these pics.
Think of millions of pics of people 'lifting their cap to save social security' flooding into the e-mails of Senators and Congressmen.
It is a simple but very effective graphic way of getting them to move on this simple and effective solution.
I'm thinking that some celebrities would get behind such a campaign and take their pics as well.
And think of the buzz that such a campaign would generate in the media.
Bernie is calling for a revolution of people to change things. We can help him out here by showing how a revolution can work - even before he gets into the White House.
