A few of the start-up finalists include: Open Data Nation, a women-run company that harnesses open data to help cities make smarter decisions and investments; Sandboxx, a veteran-run company that helps military and veteran communities communicate instantly with family and friends around the world; and MPower Financing, an immigrant-run company that helps students get the financial resources needed to attend college, and graduate without a mountain of debt.
