people/the media/institutions have consistently referred to that "Midwest" part of the country as "the heartland" for as long as I can remember.

It's always been sweet and kinda charming to hear us called "the heartland".

It's definitely not GOP terminology.

Seem to feel insulted that the term was meant to exclude them or imply something is wrong with their values, which are just as American as Indianas'.

There's so many great, unique areas of America. Every region. Every state. Every metro. I love the major US cities and the rural small towns. I am not one about rah-rah, America awesome! But holy shit I love how vast and expansive and diverse this country is.
