AUSTIN, Texas — If the Democrats in Texas want to turn the state blue in the 2020 presidential election, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is currently their best candidate, according to a new poll.

The Texas Lyceum poll found that while former Vice President Joe Biden leads Texas, he comes in second to Sanders when matched against President Donald Trump in a hypothetical 2020 general election match-up.

The survey asked respondents who they would support if the November presidential election were held today between President Trump and the leading Democratic hopefuls: Vice President Biden, Senator Sanders, Senator Warren and Mayor Buttigieg.

With fewer than nine months until Election Day, the Texas Lyceum poll shows Trump holds a lead ranging from 4 to 8 percentage points over each of the potential Democratic nominees, with Sanders polling closest to the president, 50 to 47, among likely 2020 general election voters.
