Random last minutes thoughts from Des Moines

Last edited Thu Jan 30, 2020, 01:28 PM - Edit history (1)

Streets are closed because Trump will speak at Drake University, in my neighborhood, tonight.
The signs in my neighbor are evenly split between Amy, Bernie, Pete, and Warren.
There's a reporter on every corner, well mostly at bars, coffee shops, and cafes.
Trump is sending 80 surrogates to Iowa next Monday.
Joe & Mica think they're cool at Java Joes. They're not and neither is Java Joes.
It seems everyone is either pandering to or pissing on Iowa.
The candidates think they have to spend 2 years here and nearly half the voters are still undecided this week. Another year wouldn't make a difference because we know any Dem is better than Trump.
As on DU, many are trying to figure out who could beat Trump in November, others are choosing candidates who best represent their political agenda, and some are trying to do both.
Polk County Democrats are incredibly organized and successful due to strong and innovative leadership and the enthusiasm generated by the multi-candidate caucuses.

I'll caucus for Warren.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

That's the street that runs in front of the Knapp Center where Trump is speaking tonight at 7:00 PM. The rationale was that Trump supporters would be lining up 36 hours ahead of the speech (in 25-32 degree temperatures). When I drove by there yesterday morning, about 9:00 AM, there was one -- ONE -- guy sitting in a lawn chair next to the Keep America Great sign. That brought a smile to my face, and a finger to my hand.

This morning the street was closed, and I couldn't see if there were hoards lined up in breathless anticipation of hearing Dear Leader say criminalublublubLOOK! But one block south on University Avenue, there were no throngs in red hats streaming toward the Knapp Center. Maybe all 7400 seats will be taken tonight, but so far I haven't seen a whole lot of enthusiasm.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
