It was in the children's zoo area. I was in high school, but went in there because it was OK to touch the animals. Anyhow, the lone capybara there walked over to me after I came into the area and looked up at me, expectantly, it seemed to me. So, I crouched down and scratched its head between the ears with my fingernails.

Apparently that was just right, because the giant rodent made soft grunting sounds and seemed to be enjoying it. when I stopped it lifted its head, apparently asking for more of the same. Happy capbybara; happy kid.

I've learned over the years that almost every animal reacts well to being scratched between the ears on their heads. I think that is one area most four-legged creatures can't reach, so a bit of scratching is welcome.
