Somebody wanna explain to me howcum Kars For Kids is advertising around the clock on...

MSNBC on Sirius radio?

But just on the radio.

With all the health crises we've been through, have we ever been this extreme before?

The local Wallgreens is only allowing 10 people at a time in the store and had 6' markers at the checkout. CVS the same way.

Masks are everywhere, everything is closed and the roads and parking lots are beyond vacant.

Yes, I know this is bad-- but how much worse is it than SARS or the rest of them?

March 30, 2020

Yes! the My Pillow fundie freak is planning on making masks...

Apologies for linking to the dreaded TownHall.com, but there's a big bragfest going on about how this guy is stepping up to the plate when his master called.

Yes, things are looking pretty bad, but in 1918...

we were dealing with:

Spanish flu, which might have killed 100,000,000 worldwide, but probably less than half that

A cholera pandemic that killed close to a million worldwide

An encephalitis pandemic that killed at least 1.5 million

A US polio epidemic that killed up to 10,000

and WWI.

BTW, Typhoid Mary was only a few years earlier.

And never forget smallpox, which we were still fighting. Even plague was around.

We survived it all, though.

My grandfather owned a feed and grain operation in western Maryland...

around Hagerstown. He was doing very well as one of those "handshake" kinds of businessmen, and was yer basic "pillar of the community".

The the Depression hit, and he rounded everyone up...

"We're in this together. As long as I can hold out, you've all got credit." And the farmers went back to work.

Pearl Harbor happened and we were at war, meaning everyone was back to work. Old Gus wasn't stupid and had paper on everyone for the loans, but he never sued or foreclosed on the two or three who couldn't pay him back. Needless to say, this made him an even bigger hero in the area.

It is men and women like this who are the foundations of civilization. Our local newspaper keeps finding people like this nowadays, and gives them big play.

I shall repost this comment about Bernie that may have been lost...

in almost 240 posts in that other thread.

233. Alas, Bernie should be bashed to extremes-- he has no interest whatsoever in anything...

but the further aggrandizement of Bernie and his '60s politics. And not the best part of '60s politics, to be sure. Just the laughable parts-- all of his talk about justice and equality has been approached by actual attempts at social justice by others, but then scorned by him as not good enough.

He did his best to screw Hillary's chances in the general when he refused to get out and campaign for her until two or three small mumbles just before the election.

He has spent around 30 years in Congress without one significant legislative accomplishment or any coalition building. He uses the Democratic party as a backdoor to campaigning, since he spends the rest of his time complaining about it. He knows perfectly well that he is incapable of building even the semblance of a third party with his crew of whining brats, and is perfectly aware of the history of third parties in American politics even if he could get one off the ground.

So, why should any Democrat who has been out getting petition signatures, paying for campaigns, or doing any of the myriad things party members of all sorts do every year (as opposed to every four years) give Bernie the time of day?

This is his absolutely last and final shot to be anything but a tiny asterisk in the history books, and he will not give up easily, but we are voting for the future of the nation, not for balm for Bernie's hurt feelings and dead dreams.

He should just shut up and step aside, allowing for unity to get rid of Trump. His betters in the primary season have already done that. Harris, Warren, Klobuchar, Mayor Pete, even Bloomberg, are among those who have the skills and essentials to beat Trump and do the job of President, but they all stepped back to back Biden and support unity and beating Trump.

All but one, who has to be the outlier and the oilcan that dropped into the works.

McDonald's BK, the Colonel... all open for takeout but...

for some reason all the Chinese takeout places around here are closed down.

Ice cream shops are open, too. I like that, but are they really "essential businesses"?

My latest email from Bernie...

First the good news, William: 50,000 Bernie supporters donated more than $2 million in 2 days to support five charities helping people who are already hurt by the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

That’s $2,000,000 going directly to help gig economy workers, restaurant workers, and domestic workers, and to feed seniors and kids. Thank you. Your donations will save lives.

Now the better news: we’ve identified 9 new charities that also need support during this crisis. I’m going to explain more about them shortly, but if you’re in to help — and only if you’re able to — can you chip in $10 to split among these nine groups who are helping in this crisis?

Please split a $10 contribution between nine charities and groups helping people hurt by the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. This is important.

As you know, we are likely already in an economic recession. Social distancing, which is necessary to slow the spread of the coronavirus, has caused many businesses to cut hours, lay off workers, or close up entirely.

What is brewing is an economic crisis that threatens to leave millions of people behind. And while Bernie is working to find solutions that will cover our country at scale, we as individuals can take small, immediate steps to help those around us who need it.

That is why these nine new groups we have identified are so important. They are working to feed and fund and organize people who are in need during this crisis. Let me tell you more about them, and then ask you to chip in $10 to support their work:

Feeding America supports a nationwide network for 200+ foodbanks that keep tens of millions of people fed even before this crisis — and their work is even more important now.

UNITE HERE Education and Support Fund is a nonprofit organization supporting hospitality workers who have been displaced or laid off because of this economic crisis. These workers have been hit hard, and they need all the support they can get.

American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) Relief Fund is supporting musicians who are no longer able to tour or host gigs because venues and clubs are shut down. Your support to this charity will give relief to artists who are struggling during the crisis.

Coworker.org is a nonprofit organizing platform for workers across the country to organize for rights at work and make their workplaces safer. Already this week Starbucks workers won sick leave during the pandemic using the platform, and Amazon workers and USPS employees are organizing for their safety.

Make the Road COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund supports outreach and support efforts to low-income immigrants and to organize to ensure that they are not left out of traditional government responses.

National Domestic Violence Hotline is unfortunately seeing a rise of calls and more people in need as more and more cities are having people shelter in place. Adding a donation to the hotline will ensure they have the resources to be staffed and provide resources towards safe havens for those in need.

US Bartenders Guild COVID-19 Relief Fund is a nonprofit organization of bartenders who are banding together as their workplaces close, and are providing grants and loans to people who need help until their places of work reopen.

CPD Action Solidarity Fund is working to protect and empower the working class, immigrants and communities of color. They are providing resources, support and mutual aid across their network of affiliated organizations.

Children of Restaurant Employees COVID-19 Relief Program is providing direct relief to people in the restaurant industry who have children to make sure their kids are fed and cared for even if their parents aren’t working.

These nine groups are on the front lines of the economic crisis, working to provide resources and relief to people who desperately need help.

While we are working to make sure we have scalable solutions to this crisis from the government, if you are able to make one, your contribution can go a long way to support people who need help NOW.

Please split a $10 contribution to these nine new charities working with people who are already feeling the pain of the economic crisis stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.

Thank you for all you do for our movement, and for our country. This is an unprecedented moment in history, and Bernie is glad to know that we are all in this together.

In solidarity,

Faiz Shakir
Campaign Manager

Trump's bullshit reminds me of Giuliani after 9/11...

The Ghoul was giving pressers while standing on a pile of rubble at the site.

People like the police and fire commissioners, top EMS people, and others who were actually in the trenches with their people were not allowed to speak. They just stood there in the background while Rudy took credit for all their work.

I have never hated anyone as much as I hated Rudy for that. He sat shitting his pants in the bunker until it was safe to come out and then take the credit belonging to the real men and women, many of whom died or were permanently injured doing their jobs.

Scum of the earth, both of them.

OK, the CDC and other authorities have said that alcohol wipes are the...

best sanitizers out there.

So, get those alcohol wipes and forget the fancy shit.

If you can''t find alcohol wipes, head for your liquor store and get the cheapest gin or vodka they have. It'll be a little more expensive soaking rags or paper towels in the stuff, but you can drink the excess.
