Why It Matters That Obama Is Finally Visiting An American Mosque

On Wednesday, President Obama will make his first visit to an American mosque since he assumed the nation’s highest office. The visit to a mosque in Baltimore next week is a part of the administration’s effort to address mounting hate crimes against Muslims and vitriolic anti-Muslim rhetoric from top political contenders.

Obama will visit the Islamic Society of Baltimore, located in Catonsville, Maryland, to “celebrate the contributions Muslim Americans make to our nation and reaffirm the importance of religious freedom to our way of life,” according to a White House statement. The statement did not specify why that particular mosque was selected.

The president has visited mosques around the world, and made his first visit to a synogogue in May.
Citing what they believe to be an alarming increase in the level of Islamophobia in the U.S., however, Muslim leaders have been increasingly vocal in calling on Obama to visit an American mosque.

“For a number of years we’ve been encouraging the president to go to an American mosque,” Council on American Islamic Relations spokesman Ibrahim Hooper said. “With the tremendous rise in anti-Muslim sentiment in our country, we believe that it will send a message of inclusion and mutual respect.”

Donald Trump Field Organizer Accuses Campaign of Sex Discrimination

DAVENPORT, Iowa — A former paid organizer for Donald J. Trump who was fired this month has accused his presidential campaign of sex discrimination.

Elizabeth Mae Davidson, 26, who was the Trump campaign’s field organizer here in Davenport, Iowa’s third-largest city, said in a discrimination complaint that men doing the same jobs were paid more and were allowed to plan and speak at rallies, while her requests to do so were ignored. She also said that when she and a young female volunteer met Mr. Trump at a rally last summer, he told them, “You guys could do a lot of damage,” referring to their looks.

The complaint was filed on Thursday with the Davenport Civil Rights Commission. Mr. Trump’s spokeswoman and campaign manager did not respond to calls, emails or text messages sent late Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Ms. Davidson, of Bettendorf, who had recruited volunteer organizers for most of her region’s 63 precincts and opened a Trump campaign field office, only the second in the state, was fired on Jan. 14, the day after a New York Times article portrayed problems with the campaign’s senior Iowa leadership, to whom she reported

A couple of years ago we did a piece here where I introduced the term zombie lies, which are Republican talking points that can not be killed despite being disproven time and time again. Things like voter fraud being rampant or tax cuts paying for themselves, or Lindsey Graham just hasn’t met the right girl.

But in a very short time, Republicans have gone from even the zombie lie to just making sh*t up. Ted Cruz says the federal government is going after school districts trying to force them to let boys shower with little girls. Carly Fiorina is one of the new breed of politicians who claim to see things that aren’t there. She said she watched a Planned Parenthood video of “a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain. But that video doesn’t exist unless you subscribe to Nutflix.

And of course, Donald Trump said he saw thousands of Muslim-Americans cheering after the 9/11 attacks. It never happened. But Trump doesn’t deny it, he owns it. He doubles down. He’s like Pinocchio except when he tells a lie, his balls grow bigger.
