Bernie Sanders: Trump Got Duped On Carrier Deal

Sanders points out that “In exchange for allowing United Technologies to continue to offshore more than 1,000 jobs, Trump will reportedly give the company tax and regulatory favors that the corporation has sought.”

Trump previously said Carrier should pay a “damn tax” and that companies who want to take their business offshore and sell their products back to Americans should face tariffs. Sanders notes, “Instead of a damn tax, the company will be rewarded with a damn tax cut. Wow! How’s that for standing up to corporate greed? How’s that for punishing corporations that shut down in the United States and move abroad?”

Sanders goes on to point out that now that Trump caved in to Carrier, companies will now line up to get the same sort of corrupt sweetheart deal.

He adds, “Trump has endangered the jobs of workers who were previously safe in the United States. Why? Because he has signaled to every corporation in America that they can threaten to offshore jobs in exchange for business-friendly tax benefits and incentives.”

Carrier, the company that changed its plans to shutter a plant in Indianapolis and shift production to Mexico after talks with President-elect Donald Trump, confirmed Wednesday that it would receive financial assistance from the state of Indiana as part of the deal to keep the plant open.

The White House Just Obliterated Trump's Jobs Carrier Stunt With A Giant Fact Bomb

The Hill reported that Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that the White House was pleased that the jobs were staying, then he added:

“If (Trump) is successful in doing that 804 more times, then he will meet the record number of manufacturing jobs” created during Obama’s eight years in office.

Earnest went further, saying that the roughly 800,000 jobs he cited were new jobs created under Obama’s watch. He said the president protected “more than a million” additional manufacturing jobs in the Midwest with his bailout of the auto industry.

“The one difference would be the president-elect is talking about protecting jobs,” he said. “The metric I’m using is actually creating jobs.”

What the White House didn’t mention, but is also true is that Donald Trump and Mike Pence have now set a precedent in their dealings with Carrier that every CEO in the United States is going to use. Trump better be prepared to for a flood of companies demanding tax cuts and concessions or they will take jobs out of the United States. Trump and Pence won’t care if their PR ploy sets off a binge of ransoming local and state governments across the country.

Australian teens recreate key ingredient in Pharma Bro drug for just $20

For $US20, a group of high school students has created 3.7 grams of an active ingredient used in the medicine Daraprim, which would sell in the United States for between $US35,000 and $US110,000.

In August 2015, the price of Daraprim in the US rose from $US13.50 per tablet to $US750 when Turing Pharmaceuticals, and its controversial then-chief executive Martin Shkreli, acquired the drug's exclusive rights and hiked up the price.

Since then, the 17-year-olds from Sydney Grammar have worked in their school laboratory to create the drug cheaply in order to draw attention to its inflated price overseas, which student Milan Leonard said was "ridiculous".

"It makes sense that if you're putting billions of dollars into research for a drug like this, you should be able to reap some profit, but to do something like this … it's just not just,"
he said.

Milan described the moment he realised he and his classmates had been successful.

"It was ecstatic, it was bliss, it was euphoric,"
he said.
