President Trump said that “he is considering a significant increase to the number of military personnel along the border, two days after he unveiled plans to send 5,200 troops there,” the Washington Post reports.

Said Trump: “We’ll go up to anywhere between 10 and 15,000 military personnel on top of Border Patrol, ICE and everybody else at the border. Nobody’s coming in. We’re not allowing people to come in.”

Poll: Majority of Michigan voters support pot legalization

Lansing — A ballot initiative to legalize recreational marijuana and retail sales in Michigan remains popular with voters but faces a late push from opponents running television attack ads in an effort to defeat the measure.

A majority of Michigan voters support Proposal 1, according to an Oct. 25-27 poll of 600 likely voters conducted for The Detroit News and WDIV. Fifty-seven percent of respondents said they would vote for the legalization initiative compared with 40 percent who were opposed.

The 17-percentage-point margin bodes well for the Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol, and the findings indicate 2.8 percent of voters remain undecided on the measure. The survey had a margin of error of plus-minus 4 percentage points.

“Voters know where they stand on the issue of legalization,” said Glengariff Group pollster Richard Czuba. “But the one red flag I’d wave here is that if younger voters don’t materialize at the polls, this is going to be a closer proposal than it's polling at right now.”

Poll: Michigan redistricting, voting option proposals maintain leads

Two ballot proposals to establish an independent redistricting commission and create new voting options such as no-reason absentee voting have maintained double-digit leads, according to new polling.

The redistricting plan, Proposal 2, received the support of 58.5 percent of 600 likely voters to 26.5 percent opposed, The Detroit News-WDIV survey found. TV poll of 600 likely voters. About 15 percent remain undecided in the poll with a margin of error of plus-minus 4 percentage points.

The proposal’s lead has grown since the Glengariff Group began measuring support in September. In early October, backing stood at 55 percent.

Proposal 2 would amend 11 separate sections of the Michigan Constitution to create a 13-member redistricting commission that includes four self-identified Democrats, four Republicans and five others who are “non-affiliated” or independent.

Support for Proposal 3, a plan that would expand voter options to include no-reason absentee voting, has slid from 72 percent support in early October to 69 percent support in the most recent poll. Roughly 22 percent of those surveyed oppose the proposal and about 10 percent remain undecided.
