Johnson(R-TX): Nuke Syria? Just a joke
WASHINGTON – U.S.-Syrian relations are often tense. U.S. officials are demanding that Syria withdraw its troops from Lebanon, and suspicion lingers that Damascus helped Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein hide illicit weapons.

Still, some of Rep. Sam Johnson's constituents apparently were surprised when the Plano Republican said he'd like to take care of the problem – by personally dropping a couple of nuclear bombs.

"Syria is the problem," the former fighter pilot said at a pancake breakfast at Suncreek United Methodist Church in Allen. "Syria is where those weapons of mass destruction are, in my view. You know, I can fly an F-15, put two nukes on 'em, and I'll make one pass. We won't have to worry about Syria anymore."
...
Mr. Johnson said he's "absolutely" surprised that anyone took it seriously, adding that he's never advocated a nuclear attack on Syria.

"I was kind of joking. You know. We were talking between veterans," said Mr. Johnson, an Air Force fighter pilot in Korea and Vietnam, where he spent 7 ½ years as a prisoner of war. "We were swapping sea stories – things that we'd done in the military."

Practically Reaganesque.

9. I hear this crap all the time from RWers at work!
nothing like listening to a pudgy middle aged computer programmer gleefully exclaiming how he would like to turn Damascus into melted glass.

Personally, I think people like this should be taken away in a straightjacket and administered whatever medication will alleviate their condition.

4. "We were swapping sea stories – things that we'd done in the military."
So he is justifying this faux pas becuase he was "clubbing" with a group of "good ol' boys"?

This mentality was also responsible for women being assaulted and raped at the Navy's TAIL HOOK conventions.

No, do not accept this lame excuse from a member of Congress. His remarks deserve a vote of censure by the House of Representatives. I will be writing my Representative today.

22. Typical Collin County repuke...
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 12:25 PM by rainbow4321
His district is one of the reddest in Texas.. He needs some sort of distraction to keep county residents minds off of his district going to hell under chimp. Guess he never imagined his pandering comments to leave the county and be heard elsewhere. Obviously SOMEone at the gathering had their wits about them enough to share this info.

Maybe someone needs to ask him why it is that his county has lost TONS of jobs under the shrub regime..layoffs, outsourcing. Bunch of EMPTY office space in his Telecom Corridor along Highway 75. House foreclosures have skyrocketed <again>. Has he told shrub all THAT during thier "joke" sessions?? Alcatel, EDS, you name the high tech dot com company, it is here...the jobs are not here but the company buildings are here..the actual high tech jobs have been sent overseas and the factory jobs in northern Collin County have gone to Mexico.
You would think his constituents would have connected the dots by now..repukes in charge=local economy being destroyed.

5. The state the world just loves to hate.
Let's just let Texas secede to Mexico. And if Mexico doesn't take them, we can always nuke em (Tx or Mx). The repubes from there are consistantly absolutely loathesome.

Stupid SHOULD hurt, but it never seems to when Tx is involved.

search both him and his luggage. Also, he's no longer aloowed to fly with the GOP, and will be put on the master list for terrorist watch, and should barred from flying with any political party.

Say bomb at the airport, big trouble. Say bomb in church, and be a politician, should, at the least, get you kicked out of your position permanently.

8. Contact the church and thank them for their christian values
kathleen.baskin@suncreekumc.org
Reverend Baskin

My email:

Nuke em All!

Reverend Baskin,

As a Christian, I am absolutely shocked about Rep. Kay Grange comments about Syria. But what is most disturbing is that your ministry actually applauded the idea of killing hundreds of thousands of innocent men women and children with the use of nuclear weapons.

This is not what Jesus Christ taught us. How can you stand by idly and allow such hatred to emanate from a church of Christ? How can you allow such anti-christian talk in your church?

p.s. The nuclear fallout of a nuclear blast, especially sand, could easily travel around the globe and contaminate other countries, and states like Texas. Be careful of what you wish for.

14. These guys are such cut-ups.
It is no wonder that the U.S. government is so well-loved around the world. He should throw in a few amusing one-liners about the holocaust, when he is in the mood to joke about genocide and mass murder. Plus, maybe a gag about the World Trade Center.

15. Sammy's a delusional cowboy
I hear the same 'theory': "Well, Iraq must have moved the WMD, etc." My answer/question: "How could Hussein move something he didn't have?". I usually follow with: "I suggest you call Langley, VA and inform the CIA. I'm sure they'd be interested in your theories."

These are the same people who STILL believe Iraq was somehow involved with 9/11. The willful ignorance is breathtaking.
