Fox is starting to cherry pick poll results to hype a decline in Presidential approval ("14% drop in independents - surprising and dramatic change of events")
Gallup shows a remarkablly static result, Obama is stuck at 61%, a 30% difference between approval and disapproval.
This has moved beyond a 'honeymoon' period. People have decided they like him, that the country is in big trouble and that, in general, even when they don't agree with him, they trust him.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/Gallup-Daily-Obama-Job-Approval.aspxWe should expect that as the President moves down his tree of decisions he is going to eventually get into more and more contentious decisions and his approval rating will recede.
We should also expect that even as the economy shows some improvement, 1) it will be much slower than the American public will accept and 2) unemployment will unfortunately lag as employers will add overtime and use other measures before hiring, and that the President's numbers will also decline as Americans impatience overcomes the recovery.
We should not, however, pay much attention to the inevitable decline in Presidential approval ratings.
Those numbers would only be relevent if President Obama were running against himself.
The fact is that whatever numbers the President has Republican leaders have fallen off a cliff, and are still going down. No one is going into double digits as a national leader. The more they talk and are showcased, ala Palin and Jindal, the more they decline.
And even more to the point the electoral college is not changing at all. It would be hard pressed to find a single state that voted Obama that has a chance of going red with any Republican candidate. Romney nicely took Michigan out of the discussion by opposing the auto bail out.
Pollsters do indicate that they think AZ has a good chance of going blue in 2012 without McCain on the ticket.
You nimrods at Fox can stop salivating or your going to do permanent damage to your saliva glands.
