Handel Oratorios
Any Handel Oratorio nuts out there? I have collected them all on CD and study the music as well as librettos. I use my one-hour commute to work to play them. I am fascinated by that period in european history and use Handel as a jumping off point for my historical studies as well. In fact, I have started an earnest study of the old testament to get more insight into the oratorio themes.

Yes, I'm crazy. Any other crazies out there?

1. I just am familiar with "Messiah"
A sentimental favorite of mine at Christmas. So, I'm not "crazy" for Handel, just mildly unhinged, I guess. :silly:

2. Have you heard the new recording of "Il trionfo del tempo...

...e del disinganno"? (Yeah, I hadn't heard of the work before now either.) It's a secular oratorio, absolutely gorgeous, and you must hear the soloists and the ensemble, Le Concert d'Astree.

You can watch a video of a couple of the selections on either YouTube or the EMI Classics site. That Pavol Breslik is quite a find, which is not to say that Natalie Dessay, Ann Hallenberg, and Sonia Prina are chopped liver!
