I'm going to this Girardian thing next week.
http://www.preachingpeace.org/documents/TP_Invite.2.pdf

I'll let you know how it is. It's supposed to be organizing a new group, to do more practical, grass rootsy kind of Girardian work--less academic than COV&R.

Full report late next week!

1. Sorry, I don't know what that is
and I don't want to have to download a PDF to find out. I have too many PDFs already.

3. It's a conference about the work of Rene Girard.
My apologies for the "in-speak". It's rude of me. There are others here who are interested, I know, and I probably should have pm'ed them. Here's the wikipedia info about Girard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ren%C3%A9_Girard

He's done some really interesting work, and is having some influence on Christian theology. If you're interested, imo, the best intro to Girard is S. Mark Heim's _Saved from Sacrifice_. But I suggested a colleague read it, and he said it was boring and academic. So, enter at your own risk, I guess. Another good intro is Girard's _The Scapegoat_.

Again, sorry about posting what maybe should have been pm'ed. And sorry about the pdf. I hate pdfs, myself.

2. Will it include violent elimination of an innocent victim to quench your collective mimetic desire?
I have to say there is something kind of scary about a "grass roottsy kind of Girardian work"....

Have fun!! Perhaps next year I will join you!

4. One assumes. Else, what would be the point?

There's a campfire scheduled one night. No doubt we'll be roasting marshmallows, hot dogs, and a scape goat or two.

5. I'm back. It was a wee bit disappointing. No scapegoating,
no sacrificial violence, not a lot of negative mimesis (except when I suggested to one of my fellow travelers that Hillary might make an OK pres. Bang zoom!!).

Great speakers in a great setting though. I'm wicked tired. Maybe more tomorrow.
