Hi all, I'm glad to see that this group got started.
I'm on DU so much and am glad that I have another forum to ask advice, etc. I am currently waiting for my first 3mo checkup for endometrial cancer. That will be the day after we get back from vacation on July 18th. Supposedly they got it all when I had the total hysterectomy (they took everything, including ovaries, tubes and cervix), but it was lower down than they thought. Due to that, they staged me at Grade 1 (least agressive and less than 5% cancerous cells), Stage 2A. My doc said that I realistically have a 10-15% chance of recurrence (since it was low grade, superficial lower involvement and less than 1/4 into the muscle). Research reports aren't so positive, but then they lump all grades and substages (2A and 2B) together.

I've researched out the wahzoo regarding treatment because most docs recommend radiation as an "insurance" that it doesn't come back where they took everything out. After I told my doc (he is a gyn/onco) I was uncomfortable with that and would rather just be vigilant and only do rads if there was a recurrence, he said that is the same thing he would do if he or his wife were in a similar situation. Don't do rads unless you truly need it.

I have been having alot of flip-flopping back and forth about did I do the right thing. Everytime I look back at the research or look at new research, I still feel the same way, so I guess for me I made the right decision.

That's kinda where I'm at right now. At 11 wks out from surgery, I'm still recuperating from that and just started back to work full time. UGH!

1. You took charge of your own treatment
which I really feel is important. It's hard not to flip flop after a decision like you made, but sounds like your heart was leading you away from the rads. I did the same with the recommended Tamoxifen (refused), cut short my chemo and Herceptin. I fully support you in making your own healthcare decisions!

From all I've read much of the statistics used in prognosis and other indicators with all types of cancers are years old, some as many as a decade.

All the best on a swift recovery and a relaxing vacation (you're due!). Please post your f/u results.
