Powell: Syria Can Do More to Curb Iraq

WASHINGTON -- Secretary of State Colin Powell said Wednesday that Syria can do more to curb infiltration of foreign fighters into Iraq.

Commenting on his meeting Tuesday with Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara in Egypt, Powell credited Syria with taking some action to limit such intrusions.

"We would like to see more action taken," he said, describing his discussions with al-Shara as "solid" and "candid."

Powell said they also discussed ways to prevent people from using Syrian territory to raise money or provide funds to insurgent elements or terrorists in Iraq.
