5. US forces taking a hell of a beating this weekend
It appears that Americans have been focused on more important issues this past weekend - The Peterson case, Kerik getting his arse kicked and of course the continuing rise of my favourite football team The Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue their inevitable journey to Jacksonville in late January 2005.
What you might have missed is what could be described as a potential changing point in the Iraq Quagmire. News here in Oz has been full of American deaths and what can only be described as more worrying acts of desperation from the US military. Interviews with the head of the US airforce in Iraq were particularly revealing. American army generals are now asking for all supplies to be fated including fuel and water. Efficiency's are out the window as in a very candid confession the General admitted that ground convoys are no longer safe and in many cases are just not viable. US troop concentrations are not receiving the supplies need to actually conduct the war and as a consequence many US troops are finding themselves hunkered down in defensive positions unable to move for lack of supplies.
On the fighting front S marines in Fallujah are coming under heavy pressure and have had to retreat in many areas of the town under intense fire. Pictures were shown on our independent media last night of an Iraqi Guerilla ambush of a large US convoy just o/side Abu Ghraib. This ambush was huge with huge explosions running up the road followed by intense fire from all around the convoy. The Americans definitely took a huge loss - There were US military vehicles burning all along the road. In fact after it appeared to be all over Iraqi Guerilla's were interviewed on the road in front of the burning vehicles. They didn't appear to be worried about any relief force coming to the convoys aid?? This wouldn't have happened several months ago? One wonders whether the guerillas know that the situation on the ground could be turning in their favour.
The British Black Watch have packed their bags and fled back to Basra leaving The Triangle of Death to the US Marines. Some reports out of Britain are saying that if the Shiites don't get their election at the end of January - Then the British are toast in Basra, where they are outgunned 1 million Shiites to 11,000 Brits - These Shiites ain't The Zulu's!!!
Just to top of the US military's great weekend 7 oil pipeline attacks in 2 days - Thats got hurt Dick Cheney's mates at Halliburton.
Haven't been able to get any reports from my friend's cousin in the Oz Special forces at Fallujah since he got the "Sat" phone call earlier on in the fight. As soon as we get any contact information we'll let you know - Could be interesting? It does appear though that the fight for Fallujah is far from over no matter what Fox,CNN etc etc try to tell you.
