A liberal-leaning Web site is reporting that a South Florida lawyer accused of a $1 billion fraud was one of the co-chairs for a 2008 campaign fundraiser on behalf of Gov. Bobby Jindal.

Scott Rothstein, who is accused of running a Ponzi scheme and was recently disbarred by the Florida Bar, contributed $10,000 to Jindal's 2011 re-election campaign -- $5,000 in an individual contribution and another $5,000 through his law firm.

According to talkingpointsmemo.com, Rothstein was one of the co-hosts of an October 2008 fund-raising event near Gainesville, Fla., held in conjunction with the LSU-Florida football game. It was held at the home of Jason and Denise Rosenberg.

Rothstein, who has not been charged with a crime, is accused by U.S. authorities of selling investments in nonexistent legal settlements.
