On August, 23, 2010, a recall was announced for 380,000 pounds of deli lunch meat that may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The deli meat involved in this recall were distributed to Walmart delicatessens that made them into sandwiches. The deli meat was distributed nationwide at their deli section under the 'Marketside Grab and Go Sandwiches' brand name.

Walmart announced that they have immediately pulled the recalled sandwiches and supermarket deli sandwich meat from their store shelves. Not all deli meat has been recalled and some sandwiches are ok to eat because of the sell by date. Chances are the contaminated foods have been pulled off of the shelves. However, Walmart says that if you have recently purchased the items involved in the recall you should return it for a full refund.

. . .

the meat products production dates ranges June 18 to July 2, 2010. The “Use By” date spans August 20 to September 10, 2010.

. . .

Listeria monocytogenes is an uncommon illness but if infection occurs it could be potentially deadly. Most healthy individuals never get sick with listeriosis. If a listeriosis infection occurs symptoms such as a high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea can happen.
