Might quell many rising movements of resentment against the west. I know who was kind when I was grief-stricken. I'll never turn against those people.

So, basically, it's shell out now or spend it on war later. And if we show our compassionate side now (and I know we have a great one) we don't get to watch our children die later.

And maybe, the next time we're in trouble, they'll help us.

This is why social darwinism is a total bust. Social altruism is what leads to another generation.
