The ISM index rose to 56.5% in July from 53.8% in June. Economists were expecting an increase to 54.5%. Readings over 50% indicate growth in the manufacturing sector. The new orders index rose to 60.6% from 57.2% in June. The production index rose to 61.2% from 55.6%. The employment index rose to 53.2% in July from 49.9% in June.
