8. Juan Cole is reporting that the US has banned all driving in Iraq
In an attempt to limit the possibility of car bombers disrupting the elections. Fortunately it is impossible to imagine any problems this policy might introduce with regard to people showing up to vote.
Also, the candidates haven't been able to campaign for fear of being killed. So of the some 7000 candidates, maybe a dozen have ever been seen in public, and those only on TV.
