The article says the new field is estimated to have a capacity of between 3 and 15 billion barrels. Since the
United States consumes an average of 20 million barrels a day, this means that 3 billion barrels will last about 150 days, or five months, if we rely solely on that field. Even if the most optimistic estimate of 15 billion barrels is true, and remember that not all the oil can be extracted from the field, that's still about two years worth of oil at maximum consumption rate. Somehow I don't think this would be enough to offset the economic effects of Peak Oil, which we are already feeling.
