A relative of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was involved in a minor car collision Monday and was not injured, according to a statement released yesterday by a Boston law firm.

The statement was issued on behalf of 21-year-old Jessica Davies, who is the niece of Romney's wife, Ann. Davies lives in California and has been volunteering on her uncle's campaign in Boston for the summer, according to Nancy Sterling, spokeswoman for the law firm Mintz Levin.

Sterling said Davies was driving on Queensberry Street in the Fenway area about 11:30 p.m. Monday when the accident took place. "She said it was a minor fender bender, and she wasn't even clear she hit another car or anything else," Sterling said.

Sterling said Davies contacted Boston police Tuesday and provided her contact information in case the driver of the other car began searching for her. "She reported it the next morning," Sterling said. "She called police." Alcohol "was not a factor," Sterling added.
