Iraq war has Bush in trouble
Questions grow about his future as polls show Americans turning against him

Yesterday, questions about Mr. Bush's future filled the air in Washington, as the Pentagon considered sending even more troops to fight what has become a deadly two-front war in Iraq and the White House prepared for tomorrow's closely watched testimony by National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice before the commission on the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

"You're starting to hear that 'Q' word: quagmire," he told Reuters News Agency, using a word that came to describe the escalating Vietnam conflict in the 1960s. "The public seems confused: How do we get out? Do we send more troops? How do we cut casualties? It's all becoming a big problem for Bush."

Poll numbers bear out Mr. Zogby's assertion. New polls taken since last week, when television screens showed images of American corpses being dragged through the streets of Fallujah and hung from bridges, found Mr. Bush's approval ratings at an all-time low..
