BAGHDAD, Iraq - A U.S. soldier was killed in a roadside bombing and two U.S. sailors died while conducting operations in Iraq (news - web sites)'s central Anbar province, the U.S. military said Saturday.



The soldier was killed Saturday morning when a roadside bomb exploded near a convoy south of Qarrayah, some 45 miles from the northern city of Mosul, the U.S. military said in a statement.


Two other soldiers were wounded in the attack, the military said.


The two sailors were killed Friday "while conducting operations against anti-coalition forces" in Anbar province, the military said. Anbar is a hotbed of resistance.


The sailors were assigned to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, the military said in a statement. It gave no further details.


The 1st Marine Expeditionary Force is based throughout Anbar province and has been the main force involved in the siege of Fallujah. Marines began withdrawing from the city Friday as part of an agreement that will turn security over to Iraqi forces.


Sailors are sometimes assigned to Marine units to provide logistical, medical and other services.
