I don't think the women quoted were acting stupid, as you put it. They were merely pointing out what they felt could have been done better by Kerry's campaign. I tend to agree with them, I felt he really dropped the ball on reproductive rights out of an apparant fear of the Christian right.

Obviously, no candidate is going to appeal to every group. But for us to have lost so much ground with women in unthinkable for me. Young women are the key target demographic. That was my focus during the campaign and I was pretty successful in educating them about the issues that would affect them most and convincing them to vote (when most of them weren't going to bother).

The fact that most of them weren't even aware of any threat to their reproductive rights tells me that we've got a long way to go before 2008.
