Delay gets booed and laughed at by a room full of women [View All]

Tom DeLay’s appearance at the Rosenberg Civic Center last weekend to explain teacher retirement was everything I could have wished for – Tom was arrogant, rude, patronizing, and I have 400 witnesses to prove it. And then, as if determined to make this the best day of my entire life, Tom threatened to have people “removed” and would not allow the news media into the room.

However, I did think that my fellow audience members were a little rough on Tom with all their booing and sardonic laughter. After all, Tom was slumming by coming to Rosenberg. With schoolteachers, for Socrates’ sake! Schoolteachers don’t have any money and the Rosenberg Civic Center is certainly a long slide down from the country club or Haughty’s Steak House. I think Tom was expecting the Mother Teresa Award for Being a Regular Guy because of this event. But instead, he got booed. And, worse yet, laughed at. By mostly women. Hundreds of them.

It restored my faith in sisterhood.

Tom sat on the stage with the experts that he brought to help him to explain things, kinda like President Bush has to help Vice President Dick Cheney explain things to the 911 Commission. As you’ll notice from the picture, Tom’s experts were all fluffy white boys come to ‘splain things to women, minority folks, and other people they consider childlike and charmingly stupid.

Well, there was one African American male who was introduced as an expert but he sat in the audience. When the womenfolks started asking questions that the fluffy white boys couldn’t answer, Tom brought the African American male on stage. When he didn’t snap-to as Tom has come to expect from people who don’t want to get their heads bitten off, Tom snarled at him, “Answer me! Answer me!” The crowd got ugly. They booed Tom’s little temper tantrum. Well, not all of them did. Some chose to do that thing where you shake your hand from the wrist and make that “woooooo” sound like you’re pretending to be scared when you’re not scared at all but you’re making fun of a short little guy who’s trying to be a scary bully to impress the girls but he’s not impressing anybody at all especially the girls. I personally like that move a lot.
