Great point. I have been called unAmerican many times because of my refusal to get a credit card. I don't believe in them. There will never ever be a credit card driving me into debt.

And I've never had a problem staying at hotels. I also own a home. (bought before the housing boom when I made 9 dollars an hour)

The toughest thing for me is to get off the Xmas treadmill. I have a huge family and they all love the season of greed. I hate it.

I think that of the items on your original list, Xmas spending will make the biggest impact. Stores whine for years about how Xmas spending is down (as they're raking in larger profits).
