Smashing Evil-Doers

People desperately want to be told that they can be good by crushing, mashing, pulping, maiming, and killing other people, who are painted as evil. That is a huge fantasy in our culture, bolstered by just about every action movie ever made, in which good guys are good because they kill evil people.

We are so desperate to kill, we gobble up every excuse to do it that comes along. Bush totally plays into this, freely labeling people "evil-doers", "shadowy", "freedom-haters", etc. and telling us how good we are that we are killing them.

But the whole point of enlightened thinking, including that attributed Jesus of Nazareth, (as I understand it) is that in order to be good you don't kill anyone. That holding others in judgement, declaring them evil, and killing them was God's business, not ours.

I wish we had press people who would point this out.
