...who'd taken part in a peace protest was barred from flying. A NUN!!!

I really do think that this whole thing is partly a way to scam the flying public out of more money. Designate some guy (or nun) a risk, don't refund their money, and sell their seat on the plane again. Double-dipping. I don't have nearly enough info to say any of this with any certainty but I'm suspicious by nature and I'd be surprised if the airlines didn't see the possibility for a double-dipping scam.
