Ok people, get ready, this is the spin, but here's what I see as the REAL story:

Remember when Delay was first indicted? He waived the statute of limitations on the charge of conspiracy. It was a lesser charge than money laundering and there was speculation that he copped a deal. I think that's still operative, only he decided to go BACK on his word. The prosecutor decided to go ahead w/ the more serious charges. The grand jury today was probably presented w/ the ALL THE WORK and EVIDENCE and FINAL REPORT that was all ready to go. THAT'S why it turned in it's verdict so quickly. It was all nicely wrapped up in tight little bow and just waiting for Delay to be the piece of vermin he is and go back on his deal to plead to the lesser charge. Earle struck like a viper.
