a) Judith Steinberg Dean, MD – an independent woman more interested in serving the needs of her patients and children than taking an active part in her husband's campaign

b) Theresa Heinz Kerry - an independently wealthy woman & renowned philanthropist who plays an integral role in her husband's campaign

c) Elizabeth Edwards – a woman who gave up her career to take care of her children and now serves on the board of several charitable organizations; she plays an active but less integral role in her husband's campaign than Theresa Heinz Kerry does
