He compares their roles in the campaign, not their lives as a whole, not anything of the sort. I don't think it is a contraversial statement that Teresa Heinz has more of a role in Kerry's campaign then Ms. Edwards has in Edwards'. Your interpretation is nothing short of bizarre.
