25. gladly, happily done
my letter:

Representative Hastert:

I am astounded that you would even consider refusing an extension of the 9/11 panel's deadline. This was the single biggest National Security failure in American history, and you not only allow the National Security Advisor (and the President and Vice President as well) to avoid testifying, but you won't even give this panel the time it needs to finish its work? What possible reason can justify this?

I thought you were concerned for the safety of the American people. I thought you would want to know every possible thing there is to know about what happened on that dreadful day. I thought you would want to do everything humanly possible to make sure this never, ever, happens again. Yet you give a free pass to the very officials who were in charge of our security on that day, and you deliberately refuse a crucial extension that the panel itself says it needs. Why? What is the harm in granting them a mere 60 days? Why wouldn't you want them to complete the job that they were commissioned to do? Why wouldn't you want the the panel to complete the remaining interviews? Why wouldn't you want the remaining documents examined?

What are you afraid of?

There are many Americans, Rep. Hastert, who feel they know all too well the answers to these questions.

I urge you, sir, to do the honorable thing in this matter. It is not too late to redeem yourself.
